Ministry of Tourism Cooperates with Chinese Embassy and Chef Association of Cambodia in Creating a Food Glossary as Khmer – English – Chinese Language

(Phnom Penh): To eradicate the mistakes in writing the menu at the restaurants and food stores as previously occurred, the ministry of tourism in cooperation with Chinese Embassy to Cambodia and Cambodia Chef Association, together with some related parties discussed to form a Food Glossary writing in Khmer – English – China language. To discuss accurately on this food glossary, in the evening of 29 August 2019, the Ministry of Tourism, Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, along with relevant parties opened a first meeting at the office of the ministry of tourism, under presence of H.E. Neb Samut, Director General of Tourism Industrial Management and Mr. Zhong Jifa, the first secretary of Chinese Embassy to Cambodia with the participation from Cambodia Chef Association, Cambodia Restaurant Association, Tourism Schools, Confucius Institute and researchers in Cambodian tourism sector as well. Mr. Neb Samut said the ministry of tourism made this drafted food glossary to put for discussion with above stakeholders in which there are 218 names of foods, divided into 30 parts, on which there are Khmer foods, Chinese foods and certain western foods, translated as Khmer, English and Chinese language; but the ministry will search further new names of foods. He said the preparation of this food glossary is to assist the owners of restaurants, food stores and private sectors running food services in Cambodia, especially Chinese food served – restaurants and food stores can take it to use in defining the menu in their restaurants; while the matter of wrong writing the names of shop and foods are still existed. The director general added that the above meeting, the Ministry of Tourism, Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, Cambodia Chef Association, Cambodia Restaurant Association, School of Tourism, Confucius Institute, researchers in tourism sector and above concerning parties had agreed to formulate a Technical Committee to organize an accurate food glossary paper forwards to improving quality, enhancing food sector in Cambodia and reducing mistakes in writing menus; act.
