Ministry of Tourism Signs on a Memorandum of Understanding on Human Resource Training with China’s University and Vocational Training School

(Nanning, Guangxi – China): In the occasion of the visit to attend in 16th China – ASEAN Expo in Nanning city, Minister Thong Khon had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on Skills Training and Human Resource Development in Tourism between the Ministry of Tourism and Henan Normal University, Guangxi Second Light Industry Senior Technical School and Guangxi Hansi Education Investment Co. Ltd. The signing was conducted under highly presidency of His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong, on 21st September in Nanning city.

The content of the Memorandum underlined the significances on the skills training and human resource development in tourism, the contribution to enhancement of tourism professionals’ and tour operators’ capacity development, in particular strengthening cooperation on partnership on human resource development in tourism sector and tourism vocational skill development via electronic system/distance curriculum for skills training and human resource development and the enhancement to create tourism vocational training schools in Cambodia.

In another separate event, on last 20th September 2019, Minister also visited to Guangxi Second Light Industry Technical School. Within a talk with school management, Mr. Minister informed the Chinese side about the situation of Cambodian tourism development and the need in training human resource in the field of tourism professional skills in order to timely response to the increasing tourist growth in Cambodia, both nationally and internationally.  Minister expressed that “tourism is an economic sector, needed clearly skill” to be able to have a qualified and sustainable development.

Cambodia is planned to equip and train professional skills, provided to those who are serving in tourism sector are at least 50% in 2020 and 100% in 2025. In which the need for enhancement to create as many as tourism vocational training schools is the key fundamental matter that minister requested Chinese side to help Cambodia, both scholarships provision and investments on the creation of training schools. Chinese side expressed the support and completely agreed for the minister’s requests, and promised to boost the implementation of this high effective memorandum of understanding. Please be noted that in 2025, Cambodia needs to train tourism professional skills to staffs who are serving in this sector are around one million twenty thousands in response to the numbers of about 11 million international tourists and millions of domestic tourists.
