The Ministry of Tourism Revealed about Human Resource Development and Training Strategic Plan in Cambodian Tourism Sector in International Forum in China
(Yunnan, China): His Excellency Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, led the Ministry of Tourism’s delegations to attend in the 2nd Cooperation and Exchange Forum on Education and Tourism Professional Training between Yunnan – ASEAN and South Asia under the theme “Cooperation and Mutual Trust for Common Prosperity”. Along with this, the Cooperation and Exchange Forum on Education and Tourism Professional Training between Yunnan – ASEAN and South Asia, also attended by representatives of government, provincial administration, private sector, tour operators, professors of tourism vocational schools, educational training schools, and many other related cooperative partners from ASEAN and South Asia region membered some nations such as Brunei, Malaysia, Lao, Myanmar, Thailand, Viet Nam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and America. Within the forum held on June 11, 2019, H.E Thong Khon made opening speech by expressing the significant of cooperative partnership in tourism, and revealed human resource development and training strategic plan in tourism sector by enhancing the law enforcement on tourism; for instance the enhancement the creation of national institute of tourism, tourism universities, ASEAN curriculum based – tourism vocational training schools, on the site training, the rolling out one staff, one skill and lifelong learning campaigns, etc. In response to at present employment market demands and in the future, especially contributing to the realization of the strategic direction of human resource in tourism putted out:
• In 2020: to have at least 50% tourism professionals with certificates or national and ASEAN standard based – capacity verified certificates through training and capacity assessment, while by 2018 out of total sixty thousands direct skilled staffs, there are only 40% with ASEAN standard responded capacity;
• In 2025, among 1.2 million tourism skilled staffs are to reach 100% of experts with certificates or national and ASEAN standard based capacity verified certificates via training and ASEAN standard responded capacity assessment;
• In 2030, among 1.5 million tourism skilled staffs will reach sustainable development goal of the United Nations; the ensuring a qualified equitable and inclusive training as well as enhancing lifelong learning opportunity to all citizens and SDG8; enhancing economic growth and decent jobs for all people in Cambodian tourism sector via human capital development , both national and regional contexts; In past, the Ministry of Tourism trained on tourism professional skill, hospitality and improve capacity of tourism professionals – especially about 5, 743 tour guides, in which there are 1, 409 Chinese speaking tour guides to response to Chinese market strategy; white book on China Ready, and will continue training Chinese speaking skilled staffs in tourism industry and further Chinese speaking tour guides to response to Chinese tourists growth with this task requires to have supports from cooperative partners of Chinese friends, especially from Tourism Institute of Yunnan. Please note that in 2018, Cambodia gained about 6.2 million international tourists, increased by 11%, in which Chinese tourists accounted for about 2 million, ranked number 1 out of top 10 markets. During 4 months early of 2019, Cambodia received about 2. 4 million international tourists, increased by 11%, in which 887, 039 accounted for Chinese tourists, increased by 37%, compared to the same period in 2018. In 2020, Cambodia is expected to gain about 7 million international tourists, in which Chinese tourists account for 3 million.
