Cambodia – Malaysia to Prepare a Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism to Get Ready for Signing When Malaysian Prime Minister Visits to Cambodia in Late of This Year
At a discussion meeting between H.E Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and H.E Eldeen Husaini BINMOHDASHIM, a newly appointed Malaysian ambassador to Cambodia, at the office of Ministry of Tourism, in the evening of 26 June 2019, H.E Minister agreed with Malaysian part to cooperate in preparing a memorandum of understanding focusing on bond cooperation in tourism sector to be ready for official signing when Malaysian Prime Minister visits to Cambodia in the upcoming late of 2019. The both sides agreed each other on creating Cambodia – Malaysia special task force to organize a memorandum of understanding concentrating on cooperation in tourism sector, in which include tourism information exchange, tourism promotion, advancing human resource training in tourism. H.E Malaysian ambassador asked for cooperation from Cambodian side on 4 points:
1. Advancing health tourism by advertising to Cambodian people to check and get treatment in conjunction with tour (Malaysia will offer special prices );
2. Forging golf tourism by this kind of sport has strongly popularity in Malaysia and Malaysia is also interested in playing this sport in Cambodia;
3. Preparing Muslim food festival in Cambodia;
4. Requesting Cambodian side to increase the training on Malaysian speaking tour guides to fill market demands and the preparation of Halal food service. In response to above mention, H.E Minister supported and agreed to these requests and H.E also invited Malaysian part to attend in Conference on Gastronomy which will be held in the upcoming September 2019, and addressed aspiration to organize a cross border trip by motor which is an attractive tourism product enabling to provide benefits to the both nations which can travel crossing from Cambodia to Thailand and continue to Malaysia. Please inform that in last 2018, Cambodia gained over twenty thousands of Malaysian tourists, increased by 12. 2%, and during 4 months early of 2019, Cambodia received over sixty thousands and five hundreds of Malaysian tourists.
