ASEAN laid out a common action plan to develop ASEAN region to be single tourist destination

(Siem Reap): During the 50th ASEAN Tourism Ministries Meetings in Siem Reap province, from 08 – 12 July 2019, the Leaders of the 10 ASEAN Tourism Ministries and ASEAN Secretariat had met and laid out Action Plan 2020 – 2021 in compliance with ASEAN ASEAN Tourism Development Strategic Plan 2016 – 2025. The putting out of action plan was conducted in a meeting on July 10, 2019, including:

  • Improving ASEAN tourism promotion via digital, online and other social media networks;
  • Creating new tourism products focusing mainly on food tourism, through ASEAN food tourism development plan preparation; Creating ASEAN professional networks on food; promoting self–driving tourists has also been further enhanced throughout the creation of tour packages between bordering countries; along with this, religious tourism and festival are also necessary promoted;
  • Human resource development by continuing strengthening the implementation of Mutual Recognition Agreement on Tourism Professionals (MRA) includes: updating on curriculum standards; adding further skills in the upcoming time such as MICE; putting Spa into MRA by at present there are 32 skills in the fields of hotel and travel services;
  • Forging investments in ASEAN tourism sector via the shared extra-nations promotion, internal flights promotion and travel facilitation;

His Excellency Thong Rathysak, Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation Department of the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, as Vice-Chairman of the meeting, invited all ASEAN member nations to take part in Cambodia Travel Mart 2019 and the 2nd Tourism Investment Forum, by the two events will be simultaneously held in the capital of Phnom Penh, in the upcoming October.
