Cambodia Has the National and ASEAN Standard Based – Reliable Chef Assessment Center
(Phnom Penh): His Excellency Thong Khon, Minister of the Ministry of Tourism, on 15 August 2019 inaugurated “Thalias Tourism Professional Capacity Assessment Centre on Food” which is a signal indicating that from today on, Cambodia has a national and ASEAN standard based – reliable chef evaluation center. The inauguration ceremony was conducted at Topaz restaurant, the capital of Phnom Penh, with the participation from the representatives of national and international organizations, tourism vocational training schools, national master trainers, national assessors and food expertise which in total are about 200.
H.E. Thong Khon said the initiative in creating this capacity assessment center is consistent with the human resource development in tourism sector 2017 – 2025, with the support from Thalias Group and German organization (Assist) enabling those who specialize in chef, especially a good experienced chefs; but they don’t have the officially recognized certificates to receive the capacity assessment and quality recognized certificate in accordance with the national and ASEAN mechanisms. H.E. stressed that this assessment center will take the location of Topaz restaurant, which is a high level restaurant to carry out, and with the skilled chefs who can be assessors and trainers. The human resource development in tourism through approach of training and tourism professional assessment are the prioritized strategic goal of the ministry of tourism in enhancing Cambodian tourism service quality and also responded to ASEAN Strategic Plan. H.E. addressed the recognition of this capacity assessment center is in line with Human Resource Development Strategic Plan 2017 – 2025 with the vision of enhancing training and tourism professional assessment, in which by 2020 (50%), 2025 (100%) and in 2030 (reach Sustainable Development Goals 4) “Life Long learning” and SDG8 “Decent Jobs”, in compliance with National and ASEAN Qualification, and in line with Assessment Mechanism on Recognition of National and ASEAN Tourism Professionals. H.E. Minister urged all stakeholders, tourism vocational training institutions, staffs, especially chefs to advertise and participate in a wider evaluating their further capacity. Along with this, His Excellency also invited all stakeholders, in particular the Topaz restaurant, chefs to take part in the First International Conference on Cambodia Gastronomy and Food Tourism, to be held in 21 August 2019, at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
