A Senior Official of the Ministry of Tourism: Digital Technology in Tourism Sector Is the Significantly Factor in Enhancing the Tourist Growth
(Phnom Penh): Digital technological utilization in the tourism sector has been strongly contributing to enhancing tourist growth which necessary requires in developing further capacity to the officers and tourism related stakeholders, this according to Mr. Hor Monirath, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism. Such state was made in the closing ceremony of training course on “Development and Cambodian Tourism Industrial Management Forwards to Industry 4.0”, in the evening of 23 August 2019, at the Phnom Penh Hotel, in which there was the participations from Mr. Wu Guoquan, Commercial Advisor to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, and Mr. HUANG Changxiong, Advisor of the Department of Commerce of Hainan province, China. This training course lasted for 10 days, from 12 – 23 August, having the trainings on the main topics:
1. Finding out the digital technological utilization in formulating business, Online, E-commerce;
2. The ways of studying and analyzing market, promoting product advertisement and strengthening tourism quality services by using digital technology;
3. The reformation of conducting business from Offline to Online which is gradually increasing, such in case Online Travel Agent (OTA);
4. Using technology in tourist destination management by mobilizing the Internet of Things, VR and AR, GPS technologies;
5. Finding out the future of tourism sector, through evolution of industry 4.0;
The Secretary said that all of these are the newly technologies that the world is using at the present time and in the future, and have become the main factors contributing to the high competitive tourism industrial development. He added human resource training is the main duty, which cannot be overlooked in response to double digit growth of international tourists, visited to Cambodia every year. Mr. Hor Monirath also instructed all servants and tour operators to pay attention to using better digital technology, making sure keep up with the progress of the modernized world. In line with vision of Human Resource Development Strategic Plan in Tourism 2017 – 2025, in 2020, the Ministry of Tourism is to enhance at least 50% of tourism professionals to have diploma, or national and ASEAN standard based – capacity certified certificate, through training, or capacity assessment, and in 2025 need to achieve the campaign “One Staff, One Skill”- to enhance all tourism professionals to have diploma, or the capacity certified certificates. He stressed that Cambodian tourism sector brought about USD 4, 375 million to national economy, equivalent to 12.7% of GDP; and created over sixty two thousands direct jobs, equivalent to 13% of total jobs. He also cited about the importance of Chinese markets, needed to be widely filled in field of market advertisement, structures, and human resource with high capacity in tourism sector.
