Ministry of Tourism Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Switzerland on Supporting Tourism Vocational Training at Northeast Zone for 2020 – 2024

(Phnom Penh): Ministry of Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swisscontact Cambodia on Skill Development Program in the second stage for 2020 – 2024, which the project is focused on tourism vocational training in promoting training and human resource development in tourism, especially on training on youths, students, and those who are serving in tourism and hospitality.

The project implementation was conducted at the 05 targeted provinces include: Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri and Preah Vihea provinces. The signing on the memorandum of understanding was made in the evening of 05 August 2020, at the office of the Ministry of Tourism, under patronage of H.E. Dr. THONG Khon, Minister of Tourism and Mrs. Naddia Ottiger, Deputy Director of Cooperation, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

His Excellency Pak Sokhom, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, confirmed the skill development project in the second stage for 2020 – 2024 was made at the same time, and in consistent with Human Resource Development Strategic Plan in Tourism of the Ministry of Tourism, particularly on the promoting of newly and additional skills training in tourism, hospitality and the travelling to youths, students and those who are serving in tourism in the 5 targeted provinces in order to get knowledge and skills, and to be as port for continuing the additional and life – long tourism professional learning.

The project will contribute to improving the capacity of officials of the Ministry of Tourism, at both national and sub-national levels, creating human capitals for tourism on the tourism vocational training in the context of tourism targeted provinces, and contribute to making master trainers and master trainer assessors. H.E. Pak Sokhom added that, to promote greater implementation of the step 2 of skill development program, the Ministry of Tourism nominated the officials of the ministry to become Co-Vice President of Project Implementation Committee with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, in which SDC Representative (donor) as Chairperson and Representative of Ministry of Labour as Co-Vice President.

His Excellency expressed that, for the step 2 project focuses mainly on Re-Skilling and Up-Skilling, job market promotion, improving entrepreneurship in tourism and technology implementation in education and training in line with strategic plan of Department of Tourism Vocational Training. Please be noted that, previously, through the first – step skill development project, Ministry of Tourism worked closely with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Swisscontact Cambodia and Tourism Departments of Kratie, Stung Treng, and Preah Vihea, training 160 youths (women 60) on tourism skills and hospitality in full – time curriculum; training 91 master trainers and master trainer assessors; and assessed tourism experts of 1, 167 (women 561) through recognition of prior learning (RPL).
