Message of Samdech Techo HUN SEN in the World Tourism Day 2020 Disseminated on Website of UNWTO

(Spain): United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) showed its full support for message of Samdech Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the occasion of congratulation on the World Tourism Day 2020, and disseminated the content of the letter on its official website. The letter dissemination of Samdech Techo Prime Minister of Cambodia on the UNWTO’s website has done since 06 October 2020, as Cambodia called this gesture as having been reflected about the top leaders’ attention of the UNWTO member nations to the significant roles of tourism sector in recovering economy from COVID-19 crisis. UNWTO highlighted Cambodia’s efforts in paying attention to the implementation of tourist safety measures and other sanitations especially the roles of the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism. The United Nations World Tourism Organization expressed that, under ASEAN tourism cooperative leadership in the mandate of 2020 and as chair of the world tourism forum 2021, the Cambodian ministry of tourism organized a number of common interest tasks include:

  1. Initiative of having a pattern of ASEAN regional travel with security and specific condition (ASEAN TRAVEL BUBBLE).
  2. Preparation in forming ASEAN safety measure and sanitation.  
  3. Leading in formulating Post-COVID-19 ASEAN tourism recovery plan by Cambodia has been preparing a road-map fir tourism recovery.

Please be noted that the World Tourism Day has always been celebrated by members of the UNWTO on 27 September or after today to disseminate about future perspective of tourism sector in the specific direction in order to contribute to the realization of the world agenda. To 2020, the World Tourism Day was celebrated under them theme “Tourism and Rural Development” focusing mainly on the strategy in the launching tourism sector and converting tourism potentiality into resilient and better responsibility in the future. The ministry of tourism held the congratulatory ceremony on the World Tourism Day in Siem Reap province, on last 03 October 2020. In the ceremony, the tourism community skilled officials and the representatives of the people showed support on the rural development in order to improve stronger local economy and congratulate for peace, as foundation of the tourism development bringing about prosperity and newly opportunity to all citizens. The whole ceremony committed to following the recommendations of Samdech Techo HUN SEN through the congratulatory letter, and supported the implementing measures as below:

First: Tour operators, tourism communities need to cooperate with the health authorities and the capital/provincial tourism departments in continuing implementing additional tourist safety measures and sanitation in order to joint take part in combating the pandemic of COVID-19 disease especially absolutely ensuring not having community infection forwards to building up trust and confidence from tourists, as a core of the tourism restarting.

Second: Capital/provincial tourism departments have to collaborate with local authorities, communities and related institutions in organizing further rural tourism development plan in response to a global new tourism trends as well as the increasing of domestic tourists.

Third: Tourism communities that are operating need to pay attention to the creation of additional newly tourism products by making effort in researching and compiling attractiveness of natural resources, culture, tradition and regional customs forwards to transforming those potentialities into regional unique tourism products.

Fourth: All development partners who are contributing in rural tourism development in Cambodia need to cooperate with local authorities, tourism communities and related parties under the pointing out of the capital/provincial tourism departments in implementing high effective the recommendations of Samdech Techo HUN SEN.

Fifth:  Tourism departments are to collaborate with relevant parties in organizing and training the local human resources to be more active to ensure the work sustainability and the satisfied service provision.
