Cambodia and OCA Member Nations Agree on Recovering Post-Covid-19 Olympic Movement

(Phnom Penh): 25 member countries of Olympic Council of Asia, including Cambodia had committed and agreed to implement Olympic movement restoration strategies and regional sports development after the condition of Covid-19 improved, according to the expression by Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC). This is a result in the 39th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia in Muscat city, Germany, which was held via video-conference, in the evening of yesterday Wednesday, on which there were participation from leaderships of NOCC, included HE. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and President of NOCC and Mr. General Sao Sokha, Vice President of NOCC. Mr. Vath Chamroeun stressed that the general assembly accomplished the main fruitful results beside of election for seeking a host country in Asia sport race 2030, which was given to DOHA city, Qatar. Obviously, International Olympic Committee President Dr. Thomas Bach addressed some key messages in inspiring the members’ spirit for needing to be a high resilient and solidarity in order to overcome difficult challenge of Covid-19 crisis. So, in name of members of OCA, all countries including Cambodia committed to implementing works under new turn in order to contribute to recovering Olympic movement as well as sectorial development in countries and in the regions. What important is the preparedness in regional level competitions in 2021 under a common spirit with the host country in order to ensure a safe participation and get success, even though the competition is done under a new turn. “All nations had unanimously agreed on Olympic movement restoration. Under strategic preparation by OCA, we will work on fostering development under post-Covid-19 recovery strategic plan, we have to join altogether in recovering economy, recovering urban development for cities, to be each host country needs to reorganize by new turn; but need to make competitive actions go smoothly and get success, and help develop economy of each host nation”, Vath Chamroeun added. Furthermore, Olympic Council of Asia, together with Olympic Solidarity Organization expressed that, despite the year 2020 is of Covid-19 matter impacting on matter of budget, but the two main institutions confirmed that they prepared enough reserved money for 2021 – 2022 in combating and promoting a sustainable and inclusively development in sports and Olympic movement in Asia and the world, after the recovery of Covid-19, especially helping developing nations, Vath Chamroeun said. Please express that the most important topic of the Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly, spending over 8 hours yesterday elected to choose a host country for 2030 Asia Sports. As a result, DOHA city, Qatar got victory and was entitled to host for 2030 Asia Sports; while Riyadh city of United Arab Emirates will host in 2034. For Asia sport competition 2022 will be done in Hangzhou, China and in 2026 will be done in Nagoya, Japan.
