ASEAN plus Three Tourism Ministers Committed to Recovering Tourism Sector in Their Respective Regions by Upholding Safety and Welfare of Tourists First.

(Phnom Penh): ASEAN plus three tourism ministers voiced immense concern over the decline in international tourists which has posed impacts on millions of jobs, in particular in tourism sector; hence ASEAN plus three tourism ministers agreed to commit in recovering tourism sector in their respective regions upholding the safety and welfare of tourists as first.

            Such commitment was made in the 20th ASEAN plus Three Tourism Ministers Meeting (China, Japan and Korea), organized by the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, on the morning of 05 February 2021 via video-conference at Sofitel Phuketra Hotel, chaired by H.E Dr. THONG Khon, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, and co-chaired by H.E Xu Zhang, Chinese Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism.

             The meeting was participated by ASEAN Tourism Ministers, China – Japan – South Korea Tourism Ministers, ASEAN General Secretary, ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN – China – Japan – South Korea Center, leaderships from  the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, National Council for the Development of Cambodia, the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents, the Cambodian Hotel Association, the Cambodian Travel Association and the Cambodian Tourism Federation which are in total about 200 participants.

            H.E Try Chhiv, Director of International and ASEAN Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Tourism, said “ASEAN plus three tourism ministers voiced strongly concern over the decline of 81.5% in international tourists in the last 2020 which has impacted on millions of jobs due to the shutdown of businesses and the restriction on travelling”. H.E. said, adding that in the face of a difficult situation, the ASEAN plus three tourism ministers have welcomed for the launching of anti-Covid-19 vaccine injection, and committed to strengthening a stronger cooperation between ASEAN plus three countries (China, Japan and Korea) to view on possibility in fostering tourists in ASEAN plus three nations upholding the safety and welfare of tourists first.

            ASEAN plus three tourism ministers meeting valued on work outcomes of the implementation of the ASEAN plus Three Tourism Cooperation Action Plan 2018 – 2020, and adapted on ASEAN plus Three Tourism Cooperation Action Plan 2021 – 2025 focusing mainly on two points, including the ASEAN plus three nations tourism recovery and strengthening a better cooperation forward to developing a better sustainable, responsible and resilient ASEAN plus three tourism.
