Ministry of Tourism Signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Private Sector in Boosting Urban Tourism
(Phnom Penh): In the aim to contribute with the Cambodian Royal Government in enhancing the domestic tourism and the clean city works, together with promotion of capacity building for small – scale tourism service providers, the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodian Coca – Cola Company and ThmeyThmey News signed on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The memorandum on “Partnership on Tourism Enhancement, Clean City and Capacity Building for Street Food Vendors” was conducted on the morning of February 15th, 2021 at the office of the Ministry of Tourism, presided over by H.E Dr. THONG Khon, Minister of Tourism and with participation from Mr. DAVID WIGGLESWORTH, Director of Cambodian Coca-Cola Company, Mr. Ky Soklim, Founder of ThmeyThmey News, along with many other relevant stakeholders.
According to H.E Neb Samut, Director General of Tourism Industrial Management and Secretary-General of the National Committee for Clean City Assessment of the Ministry of Tourism, the signing on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) is to contribute as a model project and mutual cooperate in going to train and promote education and understanding, the training on sanitation arrangement for street food vendors to be better and in order for them implement correctly measures of the Ministry of Tourism in order to get ready for receiving tourists when the COVID-19 is over.
H.E Neb Samut added that today food street is very crucial for tourists when they go to tourist destinations is needed to be found out what foods are available in those areas and the street foods are the attractiveness for tourists as well.
To promote this food street, in the future the ministry will organize (One Province, One Food Street Competition) to make one tourism product for national and international tourists and to make food street be attractive for tourists is needed of having clean sanitation and correctly one standard. Please be noted, as a result of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the three parties agreed on 4 major points includes:
- First: Participate in tourism development program through local based – small scale street food vendors.
- Second: Join in the shared planning to provide training courses and the support on women, as owners of the small scale business bases.
- Third: Contribute in creating online teaching programs for micro and household level – business owner training in increasing quality of food, sanitation and business development.
- Fourth: Provide mutual speakers to share experience regarding urban tourism, clean city, leadership, management and entrepreneurship. Agreed on initiative and learning on mechanism or exchanging program and provide Coca-Cola products, with the collection of plastic waste.
