Cambodia has now received another 1.5 million doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for injection to Cambodians
On the Friday morning of March 26, 2021, China’s 1.5 million doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine arrived Cambodia. This is a purchasing by the Royal Government of Cambodia to increase the injection to Cambodian people in a mission to fight against with Covid-19 disease. The Ceremony of Receiving of COVID-19 vaccine this morning was attended by His Excellency Vongsey Visoth, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Chinese side, represented by HE Wang Winthean, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, as well as officials from the Ministry of Health. The Sinovac vaccine, manufactured by Chinese company Sinovac Biotech, costs $ 10 per dose. It has the same conditions of use and efficacy as the Sinopharm vaccine and the new vaccine has a shelf life of 36 months, but the company recommends a six-month injection to be more effective. The Royal Government of Cambodia is negotiating to purchase an additional 4 million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine from the Chinese side to provide free injections to residents as planned. The Royal Government of Cambodia plans to inject more than 10 million people to effectively prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to rehabilitate the affected economy. To achieve this, Cambodia has launched a plan and is seeking further vaccines through friendly countries and through the Covax mechanism. In addition to the 1.5 million doses of the newly acquired Sinovac vaccine, another 700,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, funded by the Chinese government (300,000 doses for the Ministry of Defense and 400,000 doses for the Ministry of Health), will arrive in Cambodia in the near future as well.
