H.E. Tourism Minister Requested Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia to Boost Tourist Growth to Further Visit to Cambodia after the Situation of COVID-19 Gets Better
(Phnom Penh): H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, requested Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amerita C. Aquino to help encouraging the Philippine tourists to additional visit to Cambodia after the situation of COVID-19 has improved, as Cambodia now is planning to receive the vaccinated tourists or tourists from low-risk of COVID-19 to visit to the safe sites in Cambodia.
Such request by H.E. Thong Khon came in the evening of June 09, 2021 on the occasion he permitted Mrs. Maria Amerita C. Aquino, Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia, to pay a courtesy call and to have the works discussion at the office of the Ministry of Tourism.
H.E. Thong Khon informed Mrs. Ambassador about Royal Government’s efforts in combating the spread of COVID-19, and cited Strategic Plan in Preparedness for Reprocessing Tourism Sector after the COVID-19 disease is completed.
At the same time H.E. Minister added that on early of 2021, Cambodia hosted for ASEAN Ministers’ Meetings via Video-Conference, and adapted on measures and directions to re-open ASEAN regional tourism focusing on the already vaccinated tourists, and laid out certain plans to combat with COVID-19 disease, of which there are: the preparation to have tourism recovery plan by preparing to have safety and sanitation measures, to be implemented in the ASEAN tourism industry as well.
H.E. Minister added the Ministry of Tourism today has been studying and compiling a Concept Paper on Vaccination Tourism Package in the aim at viewing possibility for low-risk countries to visit to the sites in Cambodia, to the safe areas adhering to Cambodia’s safety measures making sure they have contributed to the combating of COVID-19 disease. These are the parts of preparedness leading to Cambodia’s preparedness in hosting for upcoming ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022.
As response, Mrs. Maria Amerita C. Aquino agreed to encourage for additional Philippine tourist growths to visit to Cambodia after the situation of COVID-19 has improved, together with the encouragement for additional training on tourism as well when the condition of COVID-19 gets better. Mrs. Ambassador also thanked Cambodian Royal Government for its generosity in vaccinating Philippine people who have worked in Cambodia, and also commended the Cambodia’s effective strategies in preventing COVID-19, as she firmly believed that the new light of the growth of Cambodia’s tourism industry will soon shine due to the rich potential of cultural heritage, historical and natural resources.
