(Phnom Penh): Leaders and working groups of the Cambodia’s and India’s ministries of tourism have agreed on preparation a plan to boost tourism after COVID-19 crisis, according to Mr. Try Chhiv, Director of the Department of International and ASEAN Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism. HE Try Chhiv confirmed the bilateral agreement was done in the 3rd Cambodia – India Tourism Working Group’s Meeting via Video-Conference, on September 22, 2021.
Cambodian delegates, led by HE Thong Rathasak, Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism, as Indian delegates, led by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Verma, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Tourism and also there were presence of Mrs. Devyani Uttama Khobragade, Ambassador of India to Cambodia and members of the two countries’ delegations as well as the private sector in the tourism sector of the two countries. HE Try Chhiv continued the meeting discussed and agreed on the topics such as:
1. Strengthening cooperation in tourism sector between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of India after COVID-19 crisis.2. Boosting the promotion of tourist destinations, in particular the cultural and national tourist destinations of the two countries.3. Exchanging experiences in advertising, developing and managing the tourist destination, exchanging tour packages of the tour operators of the two countries. 4. Enhancing cooperation between parties concerning in tourism sector and the fostering cooperation on human resource development. HE Thong Rathasak asked Indian side for checking on the requesting project made by the ministry of tourism on the project of Quick Impart Projects (QIP) at Boeung Sneh, Prey Veng province, in an area of 2,800 hectares.
HE Thong Rathasak also informed the meeting about ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022, which will be hosted by Cambodia, and will be held from 16 to 22 January 2022, in Preah Sihanouk province. Within the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022, there will also be 9th ASEAN – India Tourism Ministers’ Meeting. After that, Cambodia will host the 4th Cambodia – India Working Group Meeting during May 2022.
