Myanmar Appreciates Cambodia for Taking Another Successful Step in Reopening Tourism

(Preah Sihaouk): With the promotion about Cambodia as “a safe tourist destination in the ASEAN region”, Myanmar, as one of the ASEAN members, has high commended and congratulated Cambodia for taking another successful step in reopening tourism safely and responsibly.

Such confirmation by the Myanmar side was done in a bilateral talk between H.E. Thong Khon, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, and H.E. Htay Aung, Minister of the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism of Myanmar, and Myanmar delegations on the morning of January 18, 2022 – on the occasion of attending in the 40th ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022, at Preah Sihanouk province (16 – 22 January 2022).

In the above talk, Minister Thong Khon stressed that Samdech Techo HUN SEN, Head of Cambodian Royal Government, announced to receive tourists “safe tourism”, on the 15 November 2021 up to now, there are nearly 2, 000 international tourists visiting Cambodia every day.

Minister Thong Khon also shared Cambodia’s experiences in the fight against Covid-19 global infectious disease, by under leadership of Samdech Techo HUN SEN, Cambodian people nationwide have been anti-Covid-19 vaccinated from the age of 5 years old up which so far the booster doses (3rd dose) are being continued to vaccine, and lead to get started the 4th dose in the situation of variant virus Omicron until leading to the realization of resilience in the community towards reopening safely social-economy and tourism.  

Myanmar Minister Htay Aung expressed congratulation and high appreciation for Cambodia’s another successful step in reopening safely and responsible tourism.

H.E. Htay Aung stated that “this experience will become a model for Myanmar to restore its tourism sector”.

The bilateral meeting discussed additional works on tourism cooperation between the two countries including:

  1. Urging a joint marketing research and promotion.
  2. Encouraging for having direct flight connected between the two nations.
  3. Assisting each other on human resources development and capacity building to experts.
  4. Exchanging studying tours for state, private, and media.
  5. Advancing stronger cooperation in the sub-regional frameworks such as Greater Mekong Sub-region Cooperation, Mekong-Lanchang Cooperation, ACMECS Cooperation and CLMV Cooperation.

Myanmar side has also welcomed and supported Cambodia for being a host for the organization of the 5th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit (Cambodia is as chair), the 6th Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam (CLMV) Summit (Lao is as chair) in May 2022 in Siem Reap province.

In addition, the two sides expressed satisfaction over the previous cooperation in the spirit of friendship and solidarity as friends who used to get through difficult times in the past.
