ASEAN – India Tourism Ministers Have Vowed to Strengthen Cooperation towards Recovering ASEAN – India Tourism Sectors

(Preah Sihanouk): ASEAN – India Tourism Ministers have set a joint continuing plan – is to seek ways to use a greater digital technology in line with the evolution of the ASEAN tourism and continue strengthening cooperation towards restoring ASEAN – India tourism sectors.

The consensus was made in the 9th ASEAN – India Tourism Ministers Meeting in the forms of in-person meeting and online, at Preah Sihanouk province on the morning of January 19, 2022, to be chaired by H.E. Thong Khon, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, and co-chaired by Mrs. G. Kishan Reddy, Indian Minister of Tourism. The meeting was also attended by ASEAN tourism ministers, Indian tourism ministers, ASEAN secretary-general, leaderships of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Interior which were about 100 participants.

 In the meeting, ASEAN – India National Organizations have endorsed seeking ways in using a greater digital technology in line with the evolution of the ASEAN tourism sector.

The ASEAN – India Tourism Ministers Meeting has also vowed to strengthen cooperation towards restoring ASEAN – India tourism sectors.

The main points that were discussed and endorsed were as follows:

  1. The meeting also noted that the investments in tourism are the keys in restoring the tourism sector towards the social–economy recovery to reduce the ASEAN people’s and Indian people’s poverty.
  2. Reviewed and evaluated the action plan in order to ensure the implementation is in line with ASEAN – India Tourism Cooperation Action Plan 2021 – 2022.
  3. Viewed that ASEAN Tourism Recovery Plan, to be coordinated by Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, is enough for announcing the reopening of ASEAN tourism.
  4. The Covid-19 crisis has really spurred the digital technological development.

Be noted that Cambodia compiled Phnom Penh Declaration on Transforming ASEAN Tourism to ask for approval from ASEAN Summit 2022, to be enacted by the 25th ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting.
