His Excellency Minister Thong Khon Meets with GMS Tourism Consultative Team Leader to Discuss and Hear Project Activities

(Phnom Penh): His Excellency Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism in the evening of 18 March 2022, allowed Mr. William James Willis, Australian national, and chairman of GMS TIIG II Tourism Project Consulting Team No.3701-CAM to pay a courtesy call and report on the activities of the ongoing projects and technical assistance related to tourism, supported by ADB, WB, and AFD donors.

The tourism project GMS TIIG II No.3701 CAM focuses on infrastructure in Kep (construction of landfills, Kep coastal road, and tourist port on Koh Tonsay), and GMS TIIG No.3194-CAM focuses on tourism port construction in Kampot province.

Separately, the tourism dimension is the ASEAN tourism-based standard implementation (Clean City, Toilet, Homestay, Community Based – Tourism, and Green Hotel Standards) and the institutional capacity building – in particular strengthening the capacities of the provincial tourism development committee, tourist destination management, implemented by the ministry of tourism.

The project is being supported by the French Development Agency, the construction of the National School for Tourism Vocational Training, implemented by the ministry of tourism, the ecotourism and the sustainable landscaping project, the tourism community project for the post-Covid-19 crisis.

After listening to Mr. Willam James Willis’s remarks, H.E. Minister Thong Khon high valued the efforts made by Willam James Willis and teamwork led by Mr. Tith Chantha, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, and requested Willis to make these projects interconnected and has urged the inclusion of tourism in related projects, especially sea tourism.
