(Phnom Penh): Cambodia received two world-level awards from World Travel Awards, the first is Asia’s Leading Culture Destination 2022, and the second is Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination 2022.
Be noted that, prior to being given the two awards, approximately 2 million tourists around the world participated in voting to select Cambodia as Asia’s Leading Culture Destination 2022 and Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination 2022.
The Awards Hand-over Ceremony was held in the ITE MCMC 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on September 7th, 2022. His Excellency Thong Rathsak, Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Tourism, received the two awards on behalf of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia.
H.E. Thong Rathsak said that throughout the implementation of Strategic Plan on Reopening to Vaccinated Tourism, Political Measure to Promote Internal Tourist Movement 2021 – 2023, Roadmap on Cambodia’s Tourism Rehabilitation and Promotion During and After the Phase of COVID-19 Crisis 2020 – 2025, the Second Phase (Recovery) and based on the right strategy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Cambodia has increased the number of international tourists by 580% in the first eight months of 2022, with nearly 1 million people.
These factors have made Cambodia selected by voting from more than 2 million tourists becoming the owner of two awards under the theme “Destination for Asia”, the first is Asia’s Leading Culture Destination 2022 and the second is Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination 2022. Besides Cambodia, there are other countries that received these awards such as India, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries which are a total of 35 countries.
H.E. Thong Rathsak continued that all the international travelers visiting Cambodia throughout Visa – on –arrival (Free Visa for ASEAN Travelers). For fully vaccinated tourists are able to enter via in and out entrances of Cambodia by just showing a COVID-19 Vaccination Card/Certificate, whereas unvaccinated tourists are required only to be rapidly tested. This indicates that “Cambodia is a safe tourist destination, feel the warmth, clean and green”.
His Excellency Thong Rathsak expressed his expectation that by launching a Roadmap on the Plan to Rehabilitate and Promote Cambodia’s Tourism Sector in and after the Phase of the Covid-19 Crisis 2020-2025, the Cambodia Visit Campaign 2023, and the participation in ITE HCMC 2022 will help attract more Vietnamese investors and tourists growth because Vietnam is the second largest market of Cambodia which has 189, 782 tourists for the first seven months early 2022.
