(Phnom Penh):  Samdech Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of Cambodia, on November 2022 shared 04 points with the Tourism Ministerial Meeting, which are the foundation for the tourism development of ACMECS and CLMV.

In accordance with a speech stated in the Meetings of ACMECS and CLMV, the top leader of the Cambodian Royal Government said that going through the past 02 years of the Covid-19 crisis, the role of the tourism sector has been more necessarily seen in sustaining economic growth and the progress of society, and particularly the major role in strengthening people-to-people and nations relations, solidarity, and friendship of the regional nations.

In this sense, to be a base for the tourism development of ACMECS and CLMV, both today and in the future, Samdech Techo HUN SEN would like to share certain consideration with Tourism Ministerial Meeting as follow:

First: ACMECS and CLMV should increase mutual cooperation on new product development and provide abundance to the tourists in line with the changing of post-Covid-19 tourism trends. In this regard, the member nations should increase cooperation on rural tourism development, including community tourism, ecotourism, adventure tourism, agro-tourism, health and comfort tourism, and food tourism which all of these are the increasing tourism demands, and directly contribute to the local development.  At the same time, ACMECS and CLMV should lay out a cooperation framework to support the smallest, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to become the backbone of resilient and sustainable tourism development.

Second: In the context of digitalization, ACMECS nations and CLMV should promote the exchanging of experience on the process of digitalization in tourism, on which should take a mutual experience in the implementation of digital literacy programs in the tourism, development of digital skills, as well as the use of digital technology in forming the productivity and comparative advantages.

Third: ACMECS and CLMV should consider the ACMECS-Intra Travelers and the flow of CLMV-Intra Travelers by considering increasing the further land–routes, airway, and waterways connectivity and promoting the self-driving tour. For the attraction of tourists from third countries, Samdech Techo HUN SEN would like to support continuing the promotion under the campaign “Five Nations, One Tourist Destination” and “Four Nations, One Tourist Destination”.

Fourth: To facilitate the implementation of the ACMECS and CLMV Tourism Action Plan, to be put out, Samdech Techo HUN SEN would like to support the consideration of the establishment of ACMECS and CLMV Tourism Institutional Mechanism, which can be a secretariat or a structure and Cambodia has the pleasure in hosting.
