Minister of Tourism: Sea Festival Is a Chance to Show the World Cambodia’s Victory after the Covid-19 Crisis

(Preah Sihanouk): His Excellency Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, underscored that the Sea Festival in Preah Sihanouk province will be held from upcoming 09th – 11st November 2022 is a chance to show the world Cambodia’s victory in fighting against successfully the Covid-19 disease with the reopening of country, economy, society, and ensuring the safety for the people, tourists, and investors.  

The minister’s address came on the occasion of a meeting to prepare for the Sea Festival, at Preah Sihanouk provincial hall, on the morning of 7th November 2022. Minister Thong khon strongly emphasized that the “Sea Festival is a chance to show the world Cambodia’s success in fighting against the successful Covid-19 disease, and Cambodia has reopened the country and economy, and the society is of safety for the people, tourists and investors”.

This occasion is also special for showing up previous Cambodia’s efforts both in management, peacekeeping, and achievements and local infrastructural development, the minister added.

His Excellency Kouch Chamroeun, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, has urged to pay attention to the safety, and public order as well as the avoidance of crowded gatherings, avoidance for the danger of running over each other.

He has also encouraged paying attention to the matters of garbage and waste management both in time and after the celebration of the event. He also mentioned the city and public place decorations as well as household decorations for welcoming tourists on the occasion of the Sea Festival.

H.E. Thong Khon said that the celebration of the Sea Festival is not only for celebration, but is also a chance to educate the people about participation in keeping sanitation and promoting the meaning of the festival. He instructed to prepare enough accommodation and food services for tourists, and focus on service fees management, and waste management both in the site of business bases and public places.   

The minister also continued urging the promotion of the most domestic products in line with the movement “One Village, One Product”, which is a major priority in organizing this event.

In the meeting, the chairpersons of each sub-committee have almost completed their respective tasks related to the preparations for the upcoming Sea Festival, while with only 31 days left; this major tourism event will arrive. During the three-day event, 350 booths were set up along Samdech Techo Road, of which there are exhibition booths of relevant ministries and institutions, the tourism development zone booths, the Industry Showcase 4.0, and the world most beautiful beach club member booths, embassy, and foreign tourism booths and sponsor booths, especially Khmer and foreign food booths and street food villages.

The meeting reported on the important work related to the art exhibition, in addition to the performances of national artists, as well as the participation of foreign artists, such as from Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Vietnam. The meeting continued to report on the organization of sports events, which are more than the Sea Festival in previous years, including 3km and 5km recreational running, 20km and 40km cycling and boxing, Khmer martial arts, table football, basketball, sailing, and so on.

Please be informed that the 9th Sea Festival, Round 3 will be held from 9-11 December 2022, at the same time, Cambodia will also host the General Assembly of the most beautiful beach club in the world, from December 9th -14th,  under the theme “Beach of Peace, Beach of Hope”.
