United Nation (UN) decided to choose Cambodia to be as host country in preparation of Silk Day of United Nation in order to promote Cambodia silk product.
Cambodia Silk Research Project, organized by Royal University of Phnom Penh, received high interesting from representative of United Nation, who is working in relation to this sector. H.E Mey kalyan, an economic advisor of the royal government of Cambodia, and as Chairman of Board of Directors of Royal University of Phnom Penh and as initiator in forming Cambodia Silk Research Center, said via telegram at evening of 27 August 2018 that the United Nation (UN) recruited Cambodia to be as host country in preparation of Silk Day of United Nation in order to promote Cambodia silk product and to reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). H.E Mey Kalyan added that the topic of this Silk Day is to mention about new creative idea for sustainable development goals for the proud of culture, customs, legacy and domestic economy of Cambodia. He said adding that United Nation selected Khmer silk to be as symbol of new creative idea for sustainable development goals of United Nation to be conducted on the upcoming 24 October 2018. H.E Mey Kalyan expressed that this is the favorable and profound information which United Nation selected Cambodia to prepare the Silk Day in Cambodia. Cambodia imported silks from neighboring countries and China for number of 300 tones in a year to fill domestic needs and expensed money of 30 million US dollars, while Cambodia is able to product silk of 10% out of total import volumes
