At the evening of Jan 04, 2019, the Ministry of Tourism held a meeting on the 1st Tourism Professionals Network and Professors in Tourism Sector in conjunction with Disseminating Ceremony on Study Orientation and Career Book in Tourism Sector and officially Dissemination on Competitive Movement of Sample Tourism Professionals 2019, under presided over by His. Excellency Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and President of Professionals Network and Professors in Tourism Sector, with the participation from tourism professionals, teachers, and representative of educational institutions and tourism skill training, tourism vocational training school, tour operations, tourism associations, and tourism departments. and Professors in Tourism Sector meeting has agreed to better increase cooperation between all concerned parties in joint thinking and joint doing in order to accomplish a qualified, sustainable and high responsible tourism development forwards to the realization of sustainable development goals 2030, and enhance a better tourism service quality, especially to boost human resource development and tourism skill training and hospitality with quality, competency, and qualifications in response to national, ASEAN, regional and international standards – is to accomplish strategic goals putting out included:
1. 2020, to create about 1 million direct jobs and promote to have at least 50% of
Tourism professionals gotten certificate or competency certified certificate in consistence with national and ASEAN standards throughout training and competency assessment;
2. 2025, to create about 1.2 million direct jobs, and to reach mechanism of “One Staff, One Skill” – is to promote to have at least 100% of tourism professionals gotten certificate or competency certified certificate in accordance with national and ASEAN standards;
3. 2030, to reach Sustainable Development Goals “Ensuring training with quality, equity, and inclusive as well as enhancing life – long learning to all”, and SDG8. “Promoting economic growth and decent jobs for all citizens” in Cambodian tourism field throughout human capital development in the national and regional context.
The meeting gained knowledge about newly situation of tourism development based on concept clean, and green; in particular the utilization of information and communication technology – ICT in tourism sector forwards to ensuring the sustainable tourism development and recognizing the roles of tourism professional network and professors on tourism in sharing knowledge and experience and participation in the process of training activity implementation and human resource development in tourism sector with quality, and effectiveness, and high professional skill in consistence with national, ASEAN, regional and international standards which will contribute to the sustainable, responsible and inclusive tourism development. The meeting had agreed to have the meetings of professional network and professors in tourism sector conducted once in every 3 months for technical meeting, and once in every 06 months for leadership meeting in order to discuss works in relation to professional network and professors in tourism field, and had supported on the preparation of yearly tourism forum, via this national forum, it will become a meeting place for sharing and network compiling between students, professors, researchers in tourism sector, educational institutions and tourism skill training, tourism vocational training schools, all tour operators, as well as discussing to find challenges and solution to other issues hindering the process of human resource development in tourism sector; separately, and Cambodian tourism development; totally. The meeting announced 68 members of professional network and professors in tourism sector, and agreed to put further 18 members of professional network and professors in tourism sector.
